The Montréal West Island CIUSSS is the largest birthing centre in Québec, with more than 8,200 births per year and:

Our philosophy is based on family- and newborn-centered care by a multidisciplinary team providing quality service in line with best practices.

Various evidence-based programs are implemented on our units, such as:

  • Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome,
  • Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently (MOREOB) national obstetrics initiative promoting patient safety and quality care;
  • Hema-Québec Public Cord Blood Bank.

We adhere to the vision of the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI), a quality infant care program whose goal is to ensure the best possible start in life. The BFI ensures care environments where breastfeeding is the norm, by implementing breastfeeding-friendly practices.
