Adopting a child in Québec

In Québec, a regular adoption involves a child whose biological parents have decided to put their child up for adoption. The children are generally newborns. 

Delays and eligibility criteria

Wait time: 5 to 10 years

To apply, you must:

  • Be of legal age;
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • live in Montréal.

Contact Adoption Services at the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal by calling 514-989-1885, extension 1142 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). 

Note: You can apply to both the regular adoption registry and the Mixed Bank Foster Family Program at the same time.
