Implemented by Québec’s Ministry of Health and Social Services, the Screening Program for Hearing Loss in Newborns is offered, free of charge, to all babies. The goal of the initiative is the early detection of hearing loss and intervention before 6 months of age.
- Screening tests are quick, painless and risk-free for the child.
- Tests are usually performed within the first few hours of life.
- The result is known as soon as the test is completed. Parents are therefore quickly informed if further tests are required.
