Data Backup

What is it?

A data backup is the process of copying data, files or systems so that they can be recovered in the event of a system failure or a data loss.

Where should data be stored?

Data is usually copied to a network location away from the primary data location. It can also be backed up on secure external hard drives, cloud-based storage solutions, etc.

How often should data be backed up?

At the CIUSSS, any data saved on the network drives is backed up 3 times a day. To benefit from these daily backups, which will ensure that your data is safeguarded, you must save your data on the available network drives (Z, G, X, etc.).

Backing up data on a network drive, a huge advantage!

Why? When you save your data on a network drive such as the Z “fscluster” drive, you can restore your files yourself within 7 days of having lost or deleted them.

For any issues, contact your local service centre at 514 457 8443.

Reminder

  • Regularly back up data on “network” drives.
  • Avoid saving files to the desktop or hard drive (C drive). This way, if your computer malfunctions, is lost or stolen, you will not lose any data.
  • Do not use collaboration tools (TEAMS, One Drive) as a backup solution for document management. The MSSS is not responsible for recovering files that have been destroyed or deleted from these platforms.
