Major pilot project taking place at the Grace Dart Extended Care Centre!

The CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal is proud to announce that the Grace Dart Extended Care Centre (GDECC) has been chosen to participate in a pilot project to improve care for seniors in residential facilities. Using the latest technology, this pilot project will focus on balanced staffing to optimize human resources in CHSLDs, and better medication management using Xpill Pro software.

On Friday, October 17, Mr. Philippe Voyer, an expert in geriatric nursing care and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and Continuing Education for the Faculty of Nursing Sciences at Université Laval, visited the GDECC. He gave a very interesting talk about the many practical applications for the technologies used in this pilot project.

The concept of balanced staffing, developed by Mr. Voyer, is an approach to resource allocation in long-term care focused on a balance between:

  • The needs of the residents, based on their support needs and health;
  • The real workload on care teams;
  • The staff’s competencies (nurses, nursing assistants, beneficiary attendants).

Furthermore, the Xpill Pro software helps prevent errors when administering medication on residential units.

The GDECC was selected for this one-year pilot project because of its experience with other innovative initiatives to improve quality, support care teams, and enhance residents’ well-being. The CHSLD Camille-Lefebvre at the Hôpital de Lachine, a facility of the McGill University Health Centre, is the other public residential facility participating in the pilot project.
