On Friday, December 5, three Korean War veterans who reside at Ste. Anne’s Hospital, were presented with the Ambassador for Peace Medal by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal. This ceremony marked the 72nd anniversary of the armistice of this often-forgotten conflict, which took place from 1950 to 1953.
Korean War Veterans previously decorated with this medal, and who live at Ste. Anne’s Hospital, were not overlooked. They were given a beautiful bouquet of flowers and lovely gifts as part of this ceremony that was filled with respect and gratitude.
It is important to remember that of the roughly 26,000 Canadian soldiers who fought in this war, 516 lost their lives on the battlefield. They fought for peace, democracy and freedom, values shared by both Canada and the Republic of Korea.
