Though increasingly visible in the media, conjugal violence remains difficult to see. It can present in many different forms – psychological, verbal, financial, physical, sexual, or in combination. Even victims can have a hard time spotting it, since it often begins small and slowly escalates. So you can imagine how difficult it can be for a healthcare professional to spot it. A case study by the Ingram School of Nursing’s Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories has helped to better identify psychosocial needs in all clinical settings, so that the risks of conjugal violence can be addressed early on.
