Marking their 22nd annual report, The Directors of Youth Protection-Provincial Directors (DYP-PD), have joined forces to speak with one voice about a national concern: the collective protection of children, and actions beyond reporting.
As the report of the Special Commission on Children's Rights and Youth Protection, Building a Caring Society for Our Children and Young People (2021), reiterated, child protection is a collective responsibility. It is with society’s commitment that it is possible to ensure that all children are provided with the conditions necessary for optimal development.
Over the last 25 years, the number of reports has risen sharply and the proportion of reports retained has decreased. This indicates that many children and families may be experiencing significant difficulties and have multiple needs, without necessarily requiring DYP intervention.
This is why, beyond reporting a problem, children need all the adults they encounter to be attentive and ready to act on their behalf.
