National Ethics in Healthcare Week

[Translate to English:]

In our organization ethics takes several forms: clinical ethics, organizational ethics, and research ethics. Clinical ethics concern issues relating to clinical practice with regard to the relationship between the clinician and the user.

What are ethics?

Ethics means…
… to question our actions: what to do to do good;
… a process of reflection that serves to identify the best or most appropriate solutions in a given context;
… a search for meaning.

When should you seek an ethics consultation?

When…
....you feel uncomfortable, you have a doubt, or you encounter an issue of conscience when dealing with a situation;
....you are confronted with values that are not the same as yours;
....you are dealing with conflicting personal or professional values;
… you are faced with a difficult decision or the chosen solution, whatever it may be, presents some difficult or negative aspects.

Did you know that…

… In our organization ethics takes several forms: clinical ethics, organizational ethics, and research ethics. Clinical ethics concern issues relating to clinical practice with regard to the relationship between the clinician and the user. Organizational ethics concern issues relating to the organization of care and services, management, and governance. Research ethics concern the ethical assessment of research projects to ensure they meet the rules and scientific standards, as well as the respect for research participants.

… The organization’s Ethics Department is responsible for all staff, managers, users and their loved ones!

The Regroupement des éthiciens du réseau de la santé et services sociaux (RSSS)

When the government declared a health emergency due to COVID-19 on March 12, 2020, a number of ethics advisors at RSSS institutions began a confidential discussion on the ethical issues they faced and would be facing. The Regroupement des éthiciens du RSSS was created to better support staff, managers, users and their loved ones in this unprecedented situation. Since then, members of the group have expanded their collaboration beyond pandemic-related issues to include all issues faced at RSSS institutions.
