CIUSSS News

Excellent news for the West Island community! The project to build a new Emergency Room at the Lakeshore General Hospital has reached a major milestone. Cabinet has approved the project’s opportunity case and, has green lighted the development of a business case.

It is an important step toward realizing this project to construct a new 3-storey, 8300m² building which will include a mechanical equipment room in the basement, a new Emergency Department with 38 stretchers on the ground floor, and a 12-bed Short-term Hospitalization Unit in physical health and a 6-bed Short-term Intervention Unit in mental health on the upper floor. The project will also include the reconfiguration of outdoor spaces, including landscaping, an interior courtyard, and reconstruction of the roadway so that users can receive care more quickly.

The business case is the design phase during which detailed drawings and specifications are produced, the costs and resources are estimated, and the work to be executed is planned. It also includes analyses of the project’s environmental and economic impact. A $14.5M budget has been allocated for this phase of the project. Completion of the work is expected in the autumn of 2027.

The future is looking bright for the Lakeshore and its community!
