We are pleased to share that an initiative from our institution was recognized as part of the Prix d’excellence du réseau de la santé et des services sociaux 2025. The ceremony was held on June 3.
The project, titled Hébergement culturellement adapté Inuit DI-TSA, and spearheaded by the Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Physical Disability Residential Services (DI-TSA-DP), was selected from among many inspiring initiatives across the network as a finalist in the category Établissement et organismes communautaires – Partenariat.
This project is the result of a partnership between our institution and the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS), which aims to improve access to specialized services for the inhabitants of Nunavik living with an intellectual disability or an autism spectrum disorder (ID-ASD). The initiative has two objectives: provide ongoing services to individuals with an ID-ASD with behaviour disorders, and nurture their potential while respecting their cultural identity. Given the lack of resources in Nunavik, three intermediate resources were opened down south.
The outcome has been significant:
- So far, 22 users have been housed in these resources;
- Reduced wait times;
- Preservation of family ties;
- A 70% decrease in disruptive behaviours; and
- A satisfaction rate of over 80% among family members.
This nomination is a testament to the quality of the work that has been accomplished, the team’s commitment and its ability to put forth concrete solutions that have a positive impact on Nunavummiut and their families.
