Marking World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Today, June 15, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. It is a day that reminds us to stay attentive to what seniors or vulnerable people around us may be going through. It is also an excellent opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to their respect, dignity, and well-being.

For this occasion, we have completely redesigned the Web page on maltreatment. It contains a wealth of useful information to better recognize, prevent, and respond to abusive situations.

Did you know that?

Preliminary data from a new study on the maltreatment of seniors, conducted by the Institut de la statistique du Québec, are concerning. In 2025, an estimated 7% of people over the age of 65 living at home experienced maltreatment. And psychological maltreatment remains the most prevalent form! To learn more, check out a publication on the Institut de la statistique du Québec website.
