On September 23, representatives from Santé Québec Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal – Universitaire and the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, along with several dignitaries and partners, gathered to mark the start of construction. This $16.3 million investment, fully funded by philanthropy, marks an important milestone for the future of the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre.
The project, to be carried out in five phases, aims to modernize the health care environment in order to improve the user experience, optimize the flow of services and enhance support for clinical and professional teams.
The project will include, among other things, the creation of a new outpatient hub with examination rooms, the addition of a five-seat rapid assessment zone, the creation of additional spaces to accommodate stretchers, and the optimization of the waiting room. The relocation of stretchers around dedicated nursing stations will also help improve clinical monitoring and the efficiency of the care pathway.
The Emergency Department will remain open for the duration of the work. Mitigation measures will be implemented to limit the impact on users, visitors, staff and hospital operations.
Once completed, and thanks to the generous support of the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, the population and our teams will be able to enjoy a modern and welcoming healthcare setting that is better equipped to meet their evolving needs.
