March 1 marked the 50th anniversary of the Association des bénévoles du Centre d’hébergement de Lachine, a facility that is part of the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. That’s half a century of devoted service to vulnerable seniors, where generosity, connection and human kindness are at the heart of everything.
The association was founded on March 1, 1976, by three trailblazers, namely Françoise Frégeau-Jacques, Francine Picard-Jarrold and Claire Coderre-Denis. Since then, its volunteers, many of whom have been involved for many years, have continued to tirelessly uphold a cause they hold dear: support the residents by enhancing their daily lives and improving their quality of life.
Some of the activities they are involved in include:
- Organizing and attending various events and themed parties;
- Providing support with activities of daily living;
- Purchasing equipment for the residents;
- Fundraising activities (sales, raffles, managing donations and grants, etc.);
- Sharing smiles, their time and a friendly ear!
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to the twenty or so dedicated and loyal volunteers who, day after day, add warmth and a human touch to this residence! Also, a sincere thank you to the employees and managers of the Centre d’hébergement de Lachine for supporting these kind-hearted individuals!
