Vaccination against respiratory infections

The respiratory virus vaccination campaign is set to begin on October 10, 2023.

The campaign is designed to offer, free of charge, the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine to the entire population and the pneumococcal vaccine to certain groups of people.

The flu, COVID-19 and pneumococcal vaccines are recommended for all people at risk of developing complications if they were to contract these viruses and infections.

Who can get the vaccine?

The flu vaccine is offered free of charge to everyone aged 6 months or older.

The 2023-2024 vaccination campaign against respiratory viruses is important for the following individuals:

  • People aged 60 years and over;
  • People living in long-term care homes CHSLDs or RPAs and other congregate living settings with a high proportion of elderly and vulnerable people;
  • People who are immunocompromised or on dialysis;
  • People living with a chronic disease (heart, lung, diabetes, severe obesity, etc.);
  • Pregnant women;
  • People living in the same household or caregivers of the above-mentioned groups;
  • People living in remote or isolated areas;
  • Healthcare workers.

It is possible to receive both the COVID-19 and flu vaccines during the same visit.

It is recommended that you get both the flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine. The flu vaccine does not offer protection against COVID-19 and does not worsen COVID-19 symptoms in case of infection.
